History

Twelve corners Apothecary was originally Earl’s Drugs located in the plaza at the North-East Corners of Monroe and Elmwood. Its name was changed in order to give the pharmacy more of a “Boutique” feel to the front end. In 1982 the pharmacy manager William “Bill” Winkowski purchased the business. Bill also purchased LaMay’s Drugs, one of the oldest and most iconic drug companies in Rochester NY. The beautiful cabinetry on display in the front end are from LaMay Drug Co and were made in Rochester in the early 1900’s. In 1990’s the 2 pharmacies were merged and moved to Twelve Corners Apothecary’s current location at 1832 Monroe Ave. This historic house in Brighton was built in 1848 as a tavern by Edward Caple. In 1997 Twelve Corners Apothecary purchased Sanzel’s pharmacy as well. Ivan Sanzel was known nationally as a compounding pharmacist and it was this purchase that increased the volume of compounded prescriptions. The pharmacy became part of the Pharmacy Compounding Center of America (PCCA) at that time in order to support that shift in business. In 2004 Bill made the decision to make Twelve Corners Apothecary an exclusively compounding pharmacy. When he retired in 2015 the store became Pine Pharmacy at Twelve Corners for 5 years. During this time Kathryn Seelman worked as the staff pharmacist and in April of 2020 purchased the store and returned it to its local name – Twelve Corners Apothecary.

Since 2020 Twelve Corners Apothecary has become a hub for not just personalized prescriptions but also personalized health. Our pharmacists keep to date with the latest trends in Functional, Anti-Aging, and Metabolic medicine, making this store a resource for local patients looking for help with their own personalized health journey.
