Did you know that Twelve Corners Apothecary welcomes pharmacy students during their final year of school through Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) programs? As part of this elective rotation, students spend six weeks working full time alongside our pharmacists to learn what we believe is truly the “art” of compounding pharmacy.
Pharmacy students from the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences graduate from a program rooted within the College of Arts and Sciences — a fitting foundation for a profession that balances scientific precision with individualized patient care. While modern medicine has made tremendous advances in standardizing healthcare and improving outcomes, there remains an important human element in how practitioners evaluate and care for each patient. Experience, clinical judgment, and a deep understanding of both science and community continue to shape the way pharmacists practice every day.
At Twelve Corners Apothecary, we believe compounding represents that balance perfectly. Compounding is where chemistry, craftsmanship, and patient-centered care come together. It allows pharmacists to create customized solutions tailored to each individual’s unique needs — something that cannot always be achieved through commercially available medications alone.
When you visit our pharmacy, you’ll notice antique pharmacy books and historical formulations displayed throughout the store. Some formulas are fascinating snapshots of pharmacy history, while others provide a reminder of just how far medicine has advanced. One of our favorite conversation pieces is a bed bug remedy from the 1940s- the main ingredient, kerosene! These old texts may seem outdated today, but they represent generations of dedication to chemistry, innovation, and the continual pursuit of better patient care.
To us, compounding is more than a specialty — it is the art of pharmacy.
